Think Spring with Candy Butterfly Cupcakes

These pretty butterfly cupcakes are loaded with fun, spring colors. Use our pastel colored Candy Melts to create beautiful candy butterfly wings to top off cupcakes decorated with a mix of sprinkles and brightly colored icing swirls. Use our suggested color combinations or clean out your cupboard and find your favorite mix! It’s a great baking project for a rainy day and they’re delicious, too.

  1. Bake Cupcakes. Prepare cake mix according to recipe instructions. Bake and cool cupcakes in white cupcake liners.
  2. Make Butterflies. Print butterfly template. Place on cake board and cover with parchment paper.

    Melt 1 cup white Candy Melts candy according to package instructions. Using Blue candy color, tint candy light blue.

    Prepare decorating bag with melted blue candy; cut ¼ in. tip off end of bag.

    Following template, pipe wings with melted candy; sprinkle immediately with nonpareils. Move template, keeping pattern under parchment paper, and pipe as many wings as needed. Chill until set, about 5 to 10 minutes.

  3. Tint Icing. Combine Christmas Red, Pink and Violet icing colors to get red color shown. Combine Creamy Peach, Ivory and Pink icing colors to get coral color shown. Combine Rose with a touch of Violet icing colors to get pink color shown. Combine Violet with a touch of Rose icing colors to get purple color shown.

    Tint 1½ cups icing each red, coral, pink and purple using color combinations provided. Reserve remaining icing white.

    Prepare four decorating bags with tip 1M. Fill separately with red, orange, pink and purple icing.

    Fill decorating bag with white icing. Cut 1 ½ in. off end of bag.

  4. Decorate Cupcakes Combine small amounts of all sprinkles in a shallow bowl.

    Using white icing, pipe rosette on each cupcake; roll in sprinkle mix to coat. Alternating colors, pipe either a red, coral, pink or purple rosette on each sprinkle-covered cupcake. Top with candy butterfly wings, pushing centers of wings into icing at an angle.
