Evolution to the Wilton Sweet Studio

For nearly a century, we've been teaching cake decorating and confectionary art to students worldwide. Formerly known as The Wilton School of Cake Decorating, we’re reopening our doors with a modern twist and new location at Wilton’s headquarters at 535 E. Diehl Rd., in Naperville, Illinois in the Chicagoland region.

    History of The Wilton School

    A Century of Inspiration

    Dewey McKinley Wilton began his career in 1912 as a candymaker, eventually becoming an expert in the field. In the 1920’s he traveled internationally, teaching the art of pulled sugar to renowned pastry chefs throughout Europe. They in return, taught him the time-honored traditions of cake decorating. In 1929, Dewey founded The Wilton School of Cake Decorating, teaching new techniques at a cost of $25 per lesson. Over the years, Dewey formulated his own technique, the Wilton Method, combining the best of European artistry with an American desire for simplicity and excellence. The company continued to evolve under the direction of Dewey McKinley and Norman Wilton and would later include the sale of cake decorating products.

    We believe students learn best by doing all steps necessary to master a technique. At the Wilton Sweet Studio, each learner has their own workstation with all tools and materials needed. While the Wilton Method® delivers dependable results, our instructors prioritize process over perfection, guiding you to achieve your baking and decorating goals. Beginners can start with our Frost & Flourish series, while advanced students can take prerequisite classes or join the Master Series.
