Nature Lover's Gingerbread Cabin

Enjoy the great outdoors as you stay warm inside and decorate a gingerbread cabin. It is fun for the entire family and includes imprinted gingerbread for easy decorating, icing, fondant, candy, and a reindeer icing decoration!

  1. Make shutters. Roll out fondant 1/16 in. thick. Cut into ½ in. strips. Front shutters are 1 ¼ in. long. Side shutters are 1 ½ in. long. Use back of knife to imprint lines down centers of shutters. Cut ¼ in. wide strips, ½ in. long, attach to shutters with damp brush. Use toothpick to imprint nail heads on shutters. Set aside.
  2. Make front door. Roll out fondant 1/16 in. thick and cut into door shape; cut out window. Attach to cabin. Use white icing to fill in window. Use white icing to outline door, door window, windowpane and dot doorknob.
  3. Decorate cabin front and sides. Use white icing to outline imprinted lines for logs. Attach candy in a circle under eaves.
  4. Make side and back windows. Use white icing to fill in windows. Pat smooth. Use white icing to outline windowpanes. Use red icing to out top and bottom edges of windows. Attach shutters.
  5. Decorate roof. Use white icing and spatula to cover roof with pulled dots beginning at the bottom and working up. Attach candy in three rows. Use white icing to cover roof peak with dots and attach candy. Use white icing to pipe icicles on eaves.
  6. Decorate base. Use spatula and white icing to ice base. Attach candy for trees in front of cabin. Position reindeer icing decoration.
