Rich Mocha Buttercream Frosting

For coffee-lovers, there's no better combination than mocha frosting topping off rich chocolate cake. The espresso flavor will add a kick to any dessert.

  1. In a large bowl, cream shortening and butter with an electric mixer until light and fluffy.
  2. Add melted chocolate, instant coffee and vanilla and mix well.
  3. Gradually add confectioners' sugar, one cup at a time, beating well on medium speed. Scrape the sides and bottom of the bowl often. When all sugar has been mixed in, frosting will appear dry.
  4. Add milk and beat at medium speed until light and fluffy.
