Click to mark complete

  1. Using scissors or a paring knife, trim gum sticks, graham crackers, wafer cookies, or candy bar to fit the length of the window.
  2. Using medium consistency royal icing in a decorating bag with tip 3, pipe a small amount of icing on the back of the shutter.
  3. Position shutters, icing side against the house, on either side of the window.

Notes

  • For thinner, lighter shutters like gum sticks or graham crackers, pipe a line of icing lengthwise down one edge of the shutter and position shutter at an angle against the side edge of the window. This will give the appearance of a functional, as well as decorative, shutter. Hold the shutter in place at an angle by propping it up with a small object for about 5 minutes until the icing begins to dry.
