Yellow Buttercup Flowers Cupcakes

Make cupcakes that are blooming with cheer with these Yellow Buttercup Flowers. A fun project for decorators new to fondant, this cupcake project will teach you how to tint and cut fondant to create cute little flowers that are great for decorating.   1. One day in advance, make fondant flowers. Divide fondant into four equal portions. Tint each portion light-light yellow, light yellow, medium yellow and dark yellow using color combinations provided. Combine Lemon Yellow and Golden Yellow icing colors to get light-light, light, medium and dark yellow colors shown.

    Using fondant roller with pink guide rings, roll out shades of yellow fondant separately. Using the small blossom cutter, cut out about 25 to 32 flowers in each shade of yellow. Using shaping foam, cup flowers. Set aside to dry on cake board, about 4 to 8 hours. Reserve remaining dark yellow fondant for later step.

    Using dark yellow fondant, roll into 1/8 in. balls. Attach to center of flowers with damp brush.

  2. Bake cupcakes. Prepare cake batter following recipe instructions. Bake and cool cupcakes in white cupcake liners.
  3. Prepare icing. Prepare buttercream icing following recipe instructions.
  4. Decorate cupcakes. Prepare decorating bag with tip 1M and white icing. Pipe swirl on top of each cupcake. Arrange 2 to 3 fondant flowers on each cupcake swirl.
