  1. Bake and cool 3 cakes according to directions. Trim one layer to 1 in. high. Stack, level and fill for a 3-layer, 5 in. high cake.

    Spatula ice, then smooth.

  2. Melt, tint & prepare the Candy Melts Candy. Using either saucepans or microwaveable bowls, melt batches of Bright White Candy Melts candy and then use the following instructions to turn them the appropriate colors. Once the correct color is reached, pour melted candy mixtures into separate decorating bags, for piping.

Red: 3 oz. white candy + pink + black candy colors

Purple: 3 oz. white candy + purple + red + pink candy colors

Green: 3 oz. white candy + 15-20 chocolate candy melts + green + red candy colors

Orange: 3 oz. white candy + orange + red + yellow candy colors

Yellow: 3 oz. white candy + 15-20 chocolate candy melts + yellow + black.

  3. Start the spider webs. On a cookie pan, use the decorating bags containing each tinted color of Candy Melts candy to pipe the outline of a spider web, by piping 3 to 4 four lines, that are 3 in. to 6 in. high.

Next, use the same colors to create the horizontal semi-circle web branches, by piping lines that are 2, 3 or 4 inches long, attaching each vertical line to each of the other with arcs of candy.

When done, let them sit out at room temperature to set for 35-to-40 minutes. Do NOT put them in the refrigerator.

Only 1 to 2 webs of each color are needed, but you should probably make a few, just in case they break.

  4. Finish the spider webs. Once the outlines of the spider webs have set, melt a batch of Bright White Candy Melts candy by itself, pour it into a decorating bag and cut a small hole in the tip.

Use the prepared decorating bags to fill the cavities between the spider web lines with a healthy dose of Bright White Candy Melts candy. When done, chill for 15 minutes until it’s completely set.

For some of the taller and skinnier pieces, attach a lollipop stick to the back of the spider web using some melted bright white candy melts candy. Be sure to let these spider webs chill a bit longer, for about 30 to 35 minutes, or until they’re set.

  5. Make ganache. Using black candy and cream, prepare ganache according to recipe. Slowly pour over top of cake, allowing drizzle over the side.
  6. Decorate cake. Attach candy spiders on one side, heavier at the base of the cake, more sparse going up.

Insert and position candy webs as desired.
