- Two days in advance, make cake topper. Tint 1 oz. white fondant green using color combination provided. Combine Kelly Green and Leaf Green icing colors to get green color shown. Using 9 in. fondant roller with purple guide rings, roll out fondant. Cut out cactus using printable cactus template. Lay to dry, about 8 to 10 hours, on cornstarch-dusted cake board.
- Bake cakes. Prepare cake batter following recipe instructions. Bake and cool 5 cake layers according to package instructions.
Make buttercream. Prepare buttercream following recipe instructions. Level, fill and stack cake layers. Prepare cake for fondant covering.
Using 20 in. fondant roller with orange guide rings, roll out white fondant. Drape and smooth over cake, trimming excess fondant.
- Make fondant triangles. Using 9 in. fondant roller with purple guide rings, roll out black fondant. Using printable triangle template, fondant cutter and embosser with straight wheel, cut out 36 to 40 triangles. Using damp brush, attach triangles around sides of cake, starting at bottom and working towards top.
Assemble cake topper. Using dusting brush, dust cornstarch off back of cactus. Using angled flat brush, dust cactus with green Color Dust.
Melt Candy Melts candy according to package instructions. Using melted candy, attach 6 in. lollipop stick to back of cactus. Let set, about 15 to 20 minutes. Turn over.
Using tweezers, attach white jimmies on front of cactus, using melted candy to adhere. Let set, about 5 minutes. Insert cactus into center of cake.
