Patriotic Star Cupcakes

These Patriotic Star Cupcakes are a festive way to celebrate the 4th of July! Decorated with red and blue sanding sugar and sprinkles, each cupcake reveals a bright white star on top. Easy to customize and fun to make, they’re a perfect treat for parties, BBQs, and summer celebrations.

  1. Bake and cool cupcakes following recipe instructions for 12 cupcakes. Frost with a mound of homemade or prepared frosting using a #1A or #2A tip.
  2. Cut star shapes into parchment paper using a star craft punch or by cutting with scissors by hand (a 1.5-inch star fits nicely on top of a cupcake). Press a parchment paper star onto the top center of each cupcake, making sure the star is completely secure on the frosting, with no parts of the parchment paper lifted.
  3. In small shallow bowls, pour red sanding sugar (one bowl), blue sanding sugar (second bowl), and combinations of blue sprinkles from the Rainbow Medley Sprinkles Mix with red and/or blue sanding sugar (in one or two additional bowls), and combinations of red sprinkles from the Rainbow Medley Sprinkles Mix with red and/or blue sanding sugar (in one or two additional bowls).
  4. Press and gently roll the tops of the frosted cupcakes into different bowls of sprinkles until most of the frosting is covered.
  5. Chill the cupcakes in the freezer for a few minutes. Note: This step is key for getting a nice smooth star when removing the parchment paper
  6. Carefully remove the parchment paper stars from the tops of the cupcakes (cake decorating tweezers could be helpful with this step) to reveal a white star in the center.
