Class Description
Floral Techniques and Applications is the second course in Modern Cake Design, a program where classic technique meets contemporary design. Building on the foundational skills from Course 1: Buttercream Piping Foundations, this immersive two-day experience guides students deeper into the artistry of buttercream through refined floral work and modern textural composition.
What You’ll Learn
- Work with both Italian and American buttercream
- Achieve ideal consistencies for advanced floral design
- Pipe and sculpt realistic, dimensional flowers
- Layer multiple blooms to create movement-filled arrangements
- Apply color theory to craft harmonious floral palettes
- Create modern rope borders
- Make marbled buttercream transfers using acetate
- Apply textured layering for depth, contrast, and visual flow
- Incorporate key modern design principles: negative space, rhythm, balance, and flow
Course Experience
Across two days of guided, hands-on instruction, you’ll refine traditional techniques while learning to apply them with modern aesthetics.
On Day Two, you’ll complete a polished floral project that showcases your skill in structure, texture, and color. This course bridges classic skills with contemporary artistry, preparing you for Structure and Finish, the final stage of the Modern Cake Design series, where you’ll bring together all the skills learned throughout the program. Students will receive a Wilton Certificate of Completion.
