It's a Gender Reveal Cake

Surprise friends and family with news of a boy or girl with this cute Gender Reveal Cake. Decorated with pink and blue dots, this cake can feature either pink or blue icing on the inside to reveal the gender of the baby. Made using the Easy Layers! cake pan set, this cake bakes up quickly and is a great project for beginning decorators.

Ingredients

  • Pink Icing Color, 1 oz.

  • Favorite Cake Mix or Recipe

  • Creamy White Decorator Icing, 4 lb. Tub

  • Teal Icing Color, 1 oz.

  • Edible Metallic Cake Paint Set, 5-Piece

  • Royal Blue Icing Color, 1 oz. - Blue Food Coloring

  • Ready to Use Royal Icing, 14 oz.

  1. Bake cake. Prepare cake batter following recipe instructions. Divide batter equally into prepared pans. Bake and cool.
  2. Tint icing. Using Pink icing color, tint 2 1/8 cup icing dark pink and 1/8 cup icing light pink. Using Teal icing color, tint 1/8 cup icing teal. Using Royal Blue icing color, tint 1/8 cup icing blue.

    Prepare four decorating bags with tip 5. Fill separately with 1/8 cup dark pink, light pink, teal and blue icing.

    Prepare decorating bag with tip 21. Fill with ½ cup white icing.

    Prepare two decorating bags with tip 2A. Fill separately with remaining dark pink icing and 2 cups white icing. Reserve remaining white icing.

  3. Stack cake. Place one layer of cake on platter or serving tray. Using white icing with tip 2A, pipe line lengthwise along edge of cake. Pipe second row next to first using dark pink icing with tip 2A. Repeat, alternating colors, ending with white other edge of cake.

    Place second cake layer on first. Repeat step, alternating colors –starting and ending with white icing – until completed.

    Ice cake smooth using reserved white buttercream.

  4. Pipe message. Prepare decorating bag with tip 5 and royal icing. Pipe message on cake. Chill until royal icing hardens, about 1 to 2 hours.
  5. Decorate cake. Using Gold Cake Paint and decorating brush, paint message gold. Pipe dots all over cake using tip 5 bags with dark pink, light pink, teal and blue icing. Using white icing with tip 21, pipe star boarder around bottom of cake.
