  1. Flat surface (unassembled house): Use medium consistency royal icing and a decorating bag fitted with a round tip 3. For vertical lines, hold the bag at a slight angle (45°) with the back of the bag facing towards you. For horizontal lines, hold the back of the bag facing towards the right (left for left-handed decorators). Touch the tip to the surface to attach the icing at the starting point.
  2. Lift the tip slightly as you apply steady pressure to the bag, letting the line of icing drop into place. Guide the placement of the line as the icing squeezes out of the tip. This step is the same for vertical, horizontal, and curved lines.
  3. Touch the tip back down to the surface to finish the line, then stop squeezing and pull the tip away.
  4. Vertical surface (pre-assembled house): Use medium consistency royal icing and a decorating bag fitted with a round tip 3. Hold the bag at a slight angle (45°) with the back of the bag facing towards you, touching the tip to the surface.
  5. Squeezing the bag with steady pressure, draw the icing on the surface. This step is the same for vertical, horizontal, and curved lines.
  6. To end the line, stop squeezing and pull the tip away.
