  1. Using a decorating bag fitted with tip 18 (or any medium star tip), hold the bag against the side of the cone about 3/4 in. (1.9 cm) from the bottom of the cone, with the tip just slightly above the surface.
  2. Squeeze the bag to form a star. Continue squeezing, pulling the tip down and away, decreasing pressure as you reach the desired length of the branch.
  3. Pipe pull-out stars next to each other around the base of the ice cream cone.
  4. Pipe a second row of pull-out stars above the first row, staggering them so the new row is piped between the previous row. This will create a fuller, filled-in look.
  5. Repeat, moving up the side to cover the tree. Pipe shorter pull-out stars towards the tip of the cone.
  6. Stop piping before reaching the tip of the cone.
  7. Position trees around the gingerbread house, then pipe a few rows of short pull-out stars to cover the top of the tree.

Notes

    • Create different sized trees by cutting ice cream sugar cones to the desired size. To trim, use a wet brush to dampen the wide end of the cones with water. Only dampen the part to be trimmed. Use a knife to cut along dampened line. Let the cone dry completely before decorating.
    • For a realistic look, pipe the tree in multiple shades of green icing.
    • For ornaments, pipe dots using different colors of icing or sprinkle on nonpareils or Sugar Pearls.
    • Finish the tree by adding a Gold Star Sprinkle on top.
