Pipe tall free-standing trees using an ice cream cone to form the tree. Just cover the cone with pull-out stars, then pipe colored dot ornaments or sprinkle with nonpareils and top it off with a gold star!
Using a decorating bag fitted with tip 18 (or any medium star tip), hold the bag against the side of the cone about 3/4 in. (1.9 cm) from the bottom of the cone, with the tip just slightly above the surface.
Squeeze the bag to form a star. Continue squeezing, pulling the tip down and away, decreasing pressure as you reach the desired length of the branch.
Pipe pull-out stars next to each other around the base of the ice cream cone.
Pipe a second row of pull-out stars above the first row, staggering them so the new row is piped between the previous row. This will create a fuller, filled-in look.
Repeat, moving up the side to cover the tree. Pipe shorter pull-out stars towards the tip of the cone.
Stop piping before reaching the tip of the cone.
Position trees around the gingerbread house, then pipe a few rows of short pull-out stars to cover the top of the tree.
