- Start by piping the base of the tree. Using a decorating bag fitted with tip 3 (or any small round tip), hold the bag against the side panel of the gingerbread house, with the tip just slightly above the surface.
- Squeeze the bag to form a dot. Continue squeezing, pulling the tip down and away, decreasing pressure as you reach the desired length.
- After completing the base row, pipe a shorter row of pull-out dots right above it.
- Stagger the pull-out dots as you pipe them, so that the new row is piped between the previous row of pull-out dots. This will create a fuller, dimensional look.
- Repeat until you have achieved the desired size and a triangle shape is formed.

This technique can also be used to pipe a window planter.
To plan the shape of the tree, use an edible marker or dots of icing to create an outline.
Try using nonpareils, or Sugar Pearl sprinkles for ornaments.
