Color is popping out all over this spring! Take this cake, where vertical stripes of color create a surprise inside and bubbles of color surround a bunny silhouette outside. Use the Checkerboard Cake Set to easily create the tinted cake for a very special effect.

  1. Bake cake Prepare 3 boxes of white cake mix. Divide batter into 3 bowls, one 6 oz. portion, one 24 oz. portion, and one 42 oz. portion.
  2. Tint Batter. Using Royal Blue icing color, tint 6 oz. portion blue. Using Lemon Yellow and Orange icing colors, tint 24 oz. portion yellow. Using Pink and Orange icing colors, tint 42 oz. portion pink.
  3. Fill Cake Pans. Following instructions on Checkerboard Cake Pan Set, fill three prepared pans with batter (blue in center, then yellow, then pink on the outside). Bake and cool cake layers following recipe instructions.
  4. Tint Buttercream. Using Royal Blue, Lemon Yellow, Orange and Pink icing colors, tint 2 cups icing each blue, yellow and pink (matching batter colors). Prepare 3 decorating bags with tip 2A. Fill separately with pink, yellow and blue buttercream. Pipe buttercream on first cake layer, matching colors (blue buttercream in center, then yellow, then pink). Cover with second cake layer. Repeat buttercream pattern, then cover with remaining cake layer. Ice cake smooth with white buttercream.
  5. Cover Cake with Fondant. Roll out white fondant to 1/8 in. thickness. Carefully cover cake with fondant. Smooth and trim as needed.
  6. Decorate cake.Cut out and attach bunny pattern to cake using toothpicks..

    Use the following combinations to make edible cake paint:

    • White-White + Royal Blue icing colors for blue
    • White-White + Lemon Yellow + Orange for yellow
    • White-White + Pink + Orange for pink
  7. Dip end of lollipop stick in edible paint, then dab off excess on paper towel. Dot color around bunny, alternating colors as desired. Dots should be concentrated around the outline of the bunny, then spread out more around the outskirts of the bunny. Remove the pattern and enjoy!.
