Give Santa a little taste of something new with these Santa hat and Christmas tree cupcakes. Made using sugar cones and sparkling sugars, these cupcakes are sure to get you on the nice list this year! Use your favorite cake mix or recipe to bake your cupcakes, then decorate them with trees or Santa hats (or both!) for a Christmas party treat that's quick, easy and delicious!
Bake cupcakes.Prepare cake batter following recipe instructions. Bake cupcakes in red and green cupcake liners. Move to a rack to cool completely before decorating.
Frost cupcakes.Using spatula, frost cupcakes with white buttercream. Top with desired sprinkles.
Make trees and hats.Using an edible marker, mark a line around a sugar cone at 2 inches from the tip. Using a wet brush, wet cone at mark and cut the cone following the line. Repeat for a total of 24 mini cones.
Tint frosting.Using green and red food coloring, tint 1/2 cup frosting each green and red.
Decorate trees and hats.Using a spatula, frost half of the cones with green frosting. Cover with green sanding sugar. Repeat with red frosting and red sanding sugar on the remaining half of the cones.
Decorate cupcakes.Place red cones on cupcakes with green liners and green cones on cupcakes with red liners.
Prepare a decorating bag with tip 5 and white frosting. Pipe fur around the bottom edge of red cones and on top of the red cones to form Santa hats.
For trees, pipe a dot of icing on top of the green cones. Attach a yellow star sprinkle.
