Make THIS Christmas cookie cake the first tree you trim this holiday season! Everyone will join in the fun, from baking to icing to decorating with candy. The only thing better than christmas tree cookie decorating is eating them with family and friends.
In a large bowl, beat the butter and sugar with an electric mixer at medium speed until well blended. Add in the eggs, vanilla extract, and almond extract and mix well.
In a separate bowl, combine the flour and salt. Add flour and salt mixture to the butter mixture, and beat until well blended.
Prepare the pan with cake release and press the cookie dough into the pan. Bake for 35 minutes. Cool completely and unmold onto the cake board.
Trim cookies. With a knife, cut out a triangle shape. Starting at the 5 ½ inch mark on the 11 inch side of the cookie, cut on an angle, down to the bottom right edge, then repeat a cut on the left side to form a triangle shape. The triangle will be approximately 10 x 15 inches In size.
Ice cookie. With the star tip on a green icing pouch, pipe zig zags to cover the cookie. Smooth out the icing with a spatula.
Decorate. With a toothpick, mark sections starting at the top, marking every 2 ½ inches down to bottom.
With a star tip on white icing pouch, pipe stars along marked sections.
Add jumbo nonpareils, light bulb icing decorations, and yellow stars.
Finish with licorice strings by trimming the edges with scissors and adding small light bulb candies.
