Bold Stripes Birthday Cake

Make a statement with this Bold Stripes Birthday Cake. An easy project for beginning decorators, this cake could really be used for any occasion.   1. Bake cake. Prepare cake mix following recipe instructions. Bake and cool three cake layers. Level, fill and stack for 6 in. high cake. Crumb coat cake. Set aside.
  2. Tint icing. Tint ¾ cup white icing teal and ¾ cup green using color combinations provided. Combine Kelly Green and Lemon Yellow icing colors to get green color shown. Combine Teal and Kelly Green icing colors to get teal color shown. Using Lemon Yellow icing color, tint ¾ cup icing yellow. Tint 2 cups icing orange using color combination provided. Combine Lemon Yellow and No-Taste Red icing colors to get orange color shown.

  3. Decorate cake. Prepare four decorating bags with tip 2A. Fill separately with teal, green, yellow and orange icing.

    Using cake marker, divide cake into four sections – placing pins at 1 ½ in., 3 in. and 4 in. marks. Lightly mark cake.

    Place cake on turntable. Starting at bottom of cake, fill bottom section with teal icing. Repeat, filling next section with green, then yellow, then orange. Fill top of cake with remaining orange icing.

    Using icing smoother carefully smooth sides of cake. Using spatula, smooth top.

    Insert candles, if desired.
