Beautiful Buttercream Fall Flower Cake

Create a fabulous (and edible!) fall flower arrangement with this Fall Flowers Buttercream Cake. Ingredients

  • Favorite cake mix or recipe

  • Buttercream Frosting

  • Lemon yellow food coloring

  • Brown food coloring

  • Kelly green food coloring

  • Teal food coloring

  • Black food coloring

  • Golden yellow food coloring

  • Orange food coloring

  • Christmas red food coloring

  • Red-Red food coloring

  • Tools

  • 2 6-inch round cake pans

  • Cooling Rack

  • Decorating bags

  • Open star tip 1M

  • Petal tip 104

  • Open star tip 4B

  • Large drop flower tip 2F

  • Standard open star tip 32

  • Angled spatula

  1. Bake cake: Prepare cake batter following recipe instructions. Bake and cool two 6 inch cake layers.
  2. Make frosting: Prepare buttercream frosting following recipe instructions.
  3. Level, fill and stack layers for a 4 inch high cake. Lightly frost the cake smooth using prepared buttercream frosting.
  4. Tint frosting: Divide vanilla buttercream into 5 equal portions. Tint one portion each burnt orange, light teal, dark teal, brick red and yellow following color combinations provided.
    • Burnt Orange: Combine orange, touch of lemon yellow and touch of brown food coloring
    • Light and Dark Teal: Combine teal, kelly green and touch of black food coloring
    • Brick Red: Combine red-red, lemon yellow, touch of Christmas red and touch of black food coloring
    • Yellow: Combine lemon yellow, golden yellow and touch of black food coloring.
  5. Prepare decorating bags: Prepare bags with tips and frosting as follows:
    • Tip 1M and dark teal icing
    • Tip 104 and light teal icing
    • Tip 4B and brick red icing
    • Tip 2F and yellow icing
    • Tip 32 and spatula striped with burnt orange and yellow icing
  6. Decorate cake: Starting with tips 1M and 4B, pipe rosettes randomly on cake.
  7. Using all tips, fill in gaps with stars and rosettes.
  8. Using tip 104, pipe loose zig-zags.
  9. Continue until the cake is covered.

  • Icing Coloring Color Chart

    When mixing color, always mix a small amount of color to experiment. Start with base color and then add very small amounts of secondary color. Be sure to mix enough color for the cakes to be decorated as it is difficult to match an exact color.
