Beautiful Blooming Cookies

Everyone is sure to love a batch of these Beautiful Blooming Cookies. Great for gifting for Mother’s Day, birthdays, weddings, and showers, these lovely floral cookies are decorated using buttercream frosting and beginner piping techniques. Try making the daisies, the ruffle flowers, the zinnias, or a combination of all three – and don’t forget to add a cute little ladybug, too!

Ingredients

  • Roll-Out Sugar Cookie Recipe

  • Creamy White Decorator Icing – 4 lb. Tub

  • Lemon Yellow Icing Color

  • Orange Icing Color

  • Christmas Red Icing Color

  • Rose Icing Color

  1. Make cookies. Prepare cookie dough following recipe instructions. Roll out and cut dough with “A” circle cut-out. Bake and cool.
  2. Make daisy cookie. Tint 1/2 cup icing dark pink using color combination provided. Combine Rose and Christmas Red icing colors to get dark pink color shown. Using Lemon Yellow, Christmas Red and Black icing colors, tint 1/8 cup icing each yellow, red and black. Reserve remaining icing white.

    Prepare decorating bags as follows: tip 3 with yellow icing, tip 2 with red icing, tip 2 with black icing, tip 104 with white icing.

    Spatula ice cookie with dark pink icing.

    Using white icing, pipe daisy petals. Pipe yellow dot for center. For ladybug, pipe red dot for body, then smaller black dot for head. For spots, dip toothpick in Black icing color, then paint dots on ladybug body.

  3. Make ruffle flower. Tint 1 cup icing dark pink using color combination provided. Using Lemon Yellow, Christmas Red and Black icing colors, tint 1/8 cup icing each yellow, red and black.

    Prepare decorating bags as follows: tip 3 with yellow icing, tip 2 with red icing, tip 2 with black icing, tip 104 with dark pink icing.

    Using pink icing, pipe flat ruffles, starting on outside and going around the cookie, stopping to turn the cookie when needed. Repeat, working towards center, until cookie is filled in.

    Pipe cluster of yellow dots in center. For ladybug, pipe red dot for body, then smaller black dot for head. For spots, dip toothpick in Black icing color, then paint dots on ladybug body.

  4. Make zinnia flower. Using Orange icing color, tint 1 cup icing orange. Using Lemon Yellow, Christmas Red and Black icing colors, tint 1/8 cup icing each yellow, red and black. Reserve remaining icing white.

    Prepare decorating bags as follows: tip 5 with orange icing, tip 3 with yellow icing, tip 2 with red icing, tip 2 with black icing.

    Using orange icing, pipe loops around outer edge of cookie. Continue, working towards center.

    Pipe cluster of yellow dots in center. For ladybug, pipe red dot for body, then smaller black dot for head. For spots, dip toothpick in Black icing color, then paint dots on ladybug body.
