Monster Eyes Halloween Donuts

Ingredients

    • Baked Cake Donuts

    • 2 cups cake flour, sifted

    • 3/4 cup granulated sugar

    • 2 teaspoons baking powder

    • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

    • 1 teaspoon salt

    • 3/4 cup buttermilk

    • 2 eggs, lightly beaten

    • 2 tablespoons butter, melted

    1. Make donuts. Preheat the oven to 425°F. Spray the donut pan with vegetable cooking spray.
    2. In a large bowl, sift together flour, sugar, baking powder, nutmeg and salt. Add buttermilk, eggs and butter. Beat until just combined.
    3. Fill each pan cavity approximately 2/3 full.
    4. Bake for 7-9 minutes, or until the tops of the donuts spring back when touched. Let cool in the pan for 4-5 minutes before removing to a cooling rack.
    5. Add candy glaze. Place donuts on a cooling rack over a parchment-covered board.
    6. Melt white Candy Melts candy according to package directions. Use melted white candy in a cut decorating bag to cover the top of donuts and dripping down sides. Tap to smooth and remove excess candy. Chill until firm, about 10 to 15 minutes.
    7. Decorate donuts. Melt red Candy Melts candy according to package directions. Use melted red candy in a cut decorating bag to pipe vein lines. Chill until firm, about 3 to 5 minutes.
    8. Make eyes. Melt purple, orange and green candy, separately, according to package directions. Prepare decorating bags with melted candy. Pipe 1 in. puddle dots on parchment paper-covered board. Chill until set, about 5 to 10 minutes.
    9. Once set, use remaining candy of the same color to attach two flat sides of puddle dots together.
    10. Melt black Candy Melts candy according to package directions. Use melted black candy in a cut decorating bag to pipe dot pupils. Chill until firm, about 3 to 5 minutes.

    Notes

      • Donuts are best served fresh.
      • Fill a piping bag with the donut batter to easily fill the pan cavities.
