Holiday Stars and Rosette Cake

Liven up your holiday table with this stunning Holiday Stars and Rosette Cake. Using two simple piping techniques and a variety of decorating tips, this buttercream floral cake is a lovely way to celebrate Christmas, or even a winter shower or wedding.

  1. Bake cake. Prepare cake mix following recipe instructions. Bake and cool two cake layers. Trim layers to 2 in. high. Fill and stack layers for 5 in. high cake.

    Lightly ice cake using white decorator icing.

  2. Tint icing. Tint 1 cup icing each green, dark green, teal and burgundy using color combinations provided. Combine Sky Blue, Leaf Green and a touch of Brown icing colors to get green color shown. Combine Kelly Green, Brown and Black icing colors to get dark green color shown. Combine Sky Blue, Kelly Green and Black icing colors to get teal color shown. Combine Christmas Red and Burgundy icing colors to get burgundy color shown.

    Using Pink icing color, tint 1 cups icing pink. Using Red-Red icing color, tint 1 cup icing red.

  3. Decorate cake. Prepare decorating bags with tips and icing as follows:

    • Tip 4B - green icing
    • Tip 104 - dark green icing
    • Tip 199 - teal icing
    • Tip 32 - burgundy icing
    • Tip 1M - pink icing
    • Tip 12 - red icing

    Pipe rosettes and stars to cover sides and top of cake.
