Golden Egg Easter Cake

Ingredients

  • 5 cups batter of your favorite cake recipe or box mix

  • 4 1/4 cups Buttercream frosting

  • Lemon yellow food coloring

  • Golden yellow food coloring

  • Green food coloring

  • Royal blue food coloring

  • Pink food coloring

  • Purple food coloring

  • Chocolate Easter eggs

  • Gold Color Mist Food Color Spray

  • Spring sprinkles

  • Tools

  • 2 6-inch round cake pans

  • Cooling rack

  • Decorating bags

  • Large drop flower tip 2C

  • 13 inch angled spatula

  • 9 inch angled spatula

  1. Bake cake: Prepare batter following recipe directions. Bake and cool two 6-inch round cake layers. Trim each layer to 2 1/2 inches high for a 5 inch high cake.
  2. Color frosting:
    • Color 1/4 cup frosting yellow by combining Lemon Yellow and Golden Yellow food coloring
    • Color 1/4 cup frosting green by combining Kelly Green with a touch of Royal Blue food coloring
    • Color 1/4 cup frosting pink using Rose food coloring
    • Color 1/2 cup frosting purple by combining Violet and Royal Blue food coloring
    • Reserve remaining frosting white
  3. Prepare decorating bag: Place 1/4 cup of purple frosting in a decorating bag with tip 2C and set aside.
  4. Decorate chocolate eggs: Spray chocolate eggs with gold Color Mist spray. Let dry then turn over and repeat on the other side. Let eggs dry completely.
  5. Assemble and decorate cake: Stack and frost cake layers. Using a spatula, frost the top and sides with white frosting.
  6. Dab sides of cake with colored frostings. Use a small spatula to lightly frost the sides of the cake.
  7. Use purple frosting and tip 2C to pipe stars on the top border. Add sprinkles, then position the golden chocolate eggs on top of the cake.

Notes

    • Makes a 2-layer, 6 in. round cake (5 in. high)
