Colorful Candy Leaves Cake

Decorated in bold jewel tone colors, this Colorful Candy Leaves Cake is perfect for any fall holiday or celebration. Two-tone leaves are made using Candy Melts candy, then are arranged in a pattern around the edge of the cake. A swirl border in alternating colors adds a crowning touch to this delicious dessert.

  1. Bake cake. Prepare cake mix following recipe instructions. Bake and cool two 8 in. cake layers.
  2. Melt and tint candy melts candy Melt and tint candy as follows.

    Gold: 5 oz. Yellow candy + 2 oz. Orange candy + Yellow candy color.

    Yellow: 3 oz. White candy + Yellow candy color.

    Light Green: 2 oz. Vibrant Green candy + 2 oz. White candy.

    Blue: 4 oz. Blue candy.

    Ivory: 5 Orange candy wafers + 2 Light Cocoa wafers from candy pouch + 4 oz. White candy (reserve remaining Light Cocoa candy).

    Vibrant Orange: 3 oz. Orange candy.

    Maroon: 2 oz. Bright Pink candy + Red candy color + touch of Blue candy color.

    Teal: 5 oz. Turquoise candy + 2 oz. Green candy.

    Brown: Remainder of Light Cocoa drizzle pouch.

  3. Pipe Leaves. Print out leaf template. Place on cake board, then cover with parchment paper. Prepare 9 parchment bags, separately, with melted gold, yellow, light green, blue, ivory, vibrant orange, maroon, teal and brown candy.

    Alternating colors as desired (reserving brown for stems), pipe leaves. Repeat for a total of 34 whole leaves, 17 top half leaves and 17 bottom half leaves. Chill until set, about 20 minutes.

  4. Assemble cake. Level and stack cake layers for 4 in. tall cake. Ice cake smooth.

    Arrange candy leaves around cake, starting from bottom and working towards top. Keep cake chilled.

  5. Tint icing. Combine Golden Yellow and a touch of Leaf Green icing colors to get light green color shown. Combine Orange and a touch of Red-Red icing colors to get orange color shown. Combine Rose, Burgundy and Red-Red icing colors to get maroon color shown. Combine Juniper Green, Royal Blue and Kelly Green icing colors to get dark teal color shown.

    Tint ½ cup icing each light green, orange, maroon and dark teal using color combinations provided.

    Using a touch of Sky Blue icing color, tint ½ cup icing blue. Using a touch of Ivory icing color, tint ½ cup icing ivory.

  6. Decorate cake. Prepare six decorating bags with tip 1M. Fill separately with light green, orange, maroon, dark teal, blue and ivory icing. Using spiral border technique, pipe border around top edge of cake, alternating colors.
