Our caramel buttercream frosting using caramel topping is a twist on our classic buttercream. This rich caramel frosting pairs well with classic vanilla cupcakes or a basic yellow layer cake.

  1. In a large bowl, cream butter and shortening with an electric mixer until light and fluffy.
  2. Beat in caramel ice cream topping and vanilla.
  3. Gradually add sugar, one cup at a time. Start by mixing each cup on a low speed then beating well on medium speed. Scrape sides and bottom of the bowl after each cup of sugar is added.
  4. Continue to beat at medium speed until light and fluffy. Add a pinch of salt if too sweet and mix until completely dissolved.

Notes

    • To store: Frosting should be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 2 weeks and can be frozen for up to 6 weeks. Bring back to room temperature and re-whip before using.
