- GUM PASTE COLORS TINTED:
Use Color Right base colors and QuickCount color formulas to tint gum paste in the following shades:
Winter Red (formula 186): 6 oz. gum paste + 8 C + 15 R
Also tint smaller amounts of gum paste as follows:
1. Tint ultra-concentrated gum paste. Use Color Right base colors and QuickCount color formulas to tint gum paste in the following shades:
Autumn Forest Green (formula 377): 1 oz. gum paste + 1 BK + 2 BR + 3 B + 25 Y
2. Mix ultra-concentrated color gum paste with white gum paste.
For dark green, knead a 1/2 in. ball of ultra-concentrated green into a 2 in. ball of white gum paste.
For light green, knead a 1/2 in. ball of dark green into a 1 in. ball of white gum paste.
ICING COLOR TINTED
Use Color Right base color and QuickCount color formula to tint icing in the following shade:
Winter Deep Blue (formula 647): 2 cups icing + 26 B + 8 R + 4 P
Make gum paste poppy and flower centers three days in advance.
Tint gum paste red, dark green and light green. Make two wired poppies in red, with four petals each, following instructions in cut-outs set. Let dry following instructions.
Make two wired flower centers with light and dark green gum paste following instructions in cut-outs set. Let dry following instructions.
- Highlight petals two days in advance. Use brush and deep pink Color Dust edible accents to brush petals.
- Assemble flower also two days in advance. Follow cut-outs set directions to make five stamen clusters for each flower and assemble flowers.
Make cake one day in advance. Bake and cool three 8 in. cake layers.
Level, fill and stack cakes on same-size cake circle for a 3-layer 8 in. cake, 6 in. high. Place cake on cake plate.
- Ice cake. Tint 4 cups icing blue. Use spatula to ice cake smooth. Run tip of spatula against icing to create grooves on sides and swirls on top.
- Insert poppies in flower spikes. Insert flower spikes in 8 in. cake.
