Ingredients
For Cookies:
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
1 egg
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
3-1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
For Icing:
3 cups Royal icing
Food coloring (Rose, Violet, Moss Green and Royal Blue icing colors used)
Tools
Cookie sheet
Rolling pin
Parchment paper
Cookie cutters

Cooling rack
Piping bags

- Make cookies: Preheat the oven to 350°F.
- In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar with an electric stand mixer or hand mixer until light and fluffy. Beat in egg and extracts.
- Mix together flour, baking powder and salt. Gradually add dry ingredients to butter mixture 1 cup at a time, mixing after each addition. Do not chill dough. Divide dough into 2 balls.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough into a circle approximately 12 inch diameter x 1/8 inch thick.
- Dip the cookie cutter in flour before each use and cut out shapes.
- Bake cookies on an ungreased baking sheet 8-11 minutes or until cookies are lightly browned. Move cookies to a cooling rack to cool completely.
- Prepare icing: Prepare a decorating bag with tip 3 and royal icing; outline cookies. Thin remaining icing; flow in. Let cookies dry overnight.
- Decorate cookies: Using color combinations provided, tint 1 cup icing lavender, 1 cup icing violet and 1 cup icing green.
- Lavender: Combine Violet and Royal Blue food coloring
- Violet: Combine Violet and Rose food coloring
- Green: Use Moss Green food coloring
- Prepare a piping bag with tip 2 and green icing. Pipe stems for flowers.
- Prepare a piping bag with tip 2. Stripe the bag with lavender and violet icing. Pipe flowers and dots on cookies.
