  1. 1 DAY IN ADVANCE

Make cookies. Prepare and roll out cookie dough following recipe directions. Use largest leaves Cut-Out fondant cutter from set to cut 10 cookies (reverse cutter for five cookies). Use knife to cut 1/2 in. off wide end of six cookies (three in each direction) for horns. Bake and cool cookies.

  2. Bake and cool cupcake cake. Cake is one layer. Position cake with cupcake top at bottom (for muzzle) on foil-wrapped cake board, cut to fit cake, cookie horns and ears.

Prepare buttercream icing following recipe directions. Tint portions rose petal pink from 4-color pastels icing color set, black, brown/red-red/black combination (for brown). Reserve remaining white.

  3. Decorate features. Use patterns and toothpick to mark muzzle, eyes, nostrils and mouth on cake. Use tip 3 and icing to outline and pipe in features in this order: whites of eyes, pink nostrils, black pupils and mouth opening. Pat smooth with fingertip dipped in cornstarch. Use tip 3 and black icing to outline eyes and smile.
  4. Decorate cake. Use spatula and white icing to stack and ice three trimmed cookies for each horn and two whole cookies for each ear. Position cookies next to cake. Use toothpick to mark brown spots. Use tip 16 to cover areas with stars: brown spots, pink muzzle and white head and horns. Use tip 18 and brown icing to pipe pull-out stars for hair tuft. Vary angles up and down, left and right.
