Jungle Animals Jamboree Fondant Cake

Cute monkeys, elephants, giraffes and lions (oh, my!) parade across this wild landscape ready to celebrate! Create this incredible cake using Decorator Preferred Fondant along with the Wilton Jungle Animals Fondant and Gum Paste Mold.

  1. Make layered cakes. Prepare batter following recipe directions. Bake and cool two 12 in. and two 8 in. cakes. Prepare buttercream icing following recipe directions. Prepare, fill and stack 12 in. and 8 in. cakes for 2-layer cakes, 4 in. high. Place cakes on cake circles. Use spatula and icing to ice cakes lightly.
  2. Cover cakes with fondant. Tint fondant as follows: 72 oz. light sky blue, 3 oz. light brown, 3 oz. yellow, 2 oz. gray, 1 oz. light royal blue, 2 oz. dark brown and 5 oz. green. Reserve 1 oz. white fondant. Use fondant roller with orange guide rings to roll out light sky blue fondant 1/8 in. thick. Cover cakes with light sky blue fondant. Prepare cakes for stacked construction. Stack cakes.
  3. Decorate 8 in. cake. Use jungle animals mold to make 16 monkeys with light brown fondant. Use knife to trim excess fondant. Place monkeys on storage board to dry, about 30 minutes. Use knife to cut negative spaces. Place under storage board flap.

    Use jungle animals mold to make 11 strips of grass with green fondant. Use damp brush to attach grass strips to 8 in. cake. Use jungle animals mold to make eight clouds with white fondant. Use damp brush to attach clouds and monkeys in a staggered pattern on 8 in. cake.

  4. Decorate 12 in. cake. Use jungle animals mold to make six tree trunks with dark brown fondant. Place tree trunks on storage board to dry, about 30 minutes. Use knife to cut the negative space between the branches. Place under storage board flap.

    Use fondant roller with blue guide rings to roll out royal blue fondant 1/16 in. thick. Use knife to cut strip, 2 in. wide x 6 in. long, for the watering hole. Use knife to trim bottom straight. Use knife to trim the strip, 6 in. wide x 1 in. high, and create a subtle wave. Use damp brush attach watering hole. Use jungle animals mold to make three strips of grass from green fondant. Use knife to cut about 3/4 in. from bottom of strips. Use damp brush to attach trimmed grass strips in front of watering hole. Use jungle animals mold to make water splash from blue fondant. Place under storage board flap.

    Use jungle animals mold to make 15 grass strips with green fondant. Use damp brush to attach grass strips to 12 in. cake.

    Use damp brush to attach one tree trunk next to watering hole, leaving tree trunk exposed. Use damp brush to attach remaining tree trunks behind grass strips. Use jungle animals mold to make tree leaves with green fondant (use cloud section). Use damp brush to attach tree leaves to tree branches.

    Use jungle animals mold to make four elephants with gray fondant. Use damp brush to attach one elephant to watering hole. Attach water splash above elephant's trunk. Attach remaining elephants around cake, spacing evenly apart. Use jungle animals mold to make four lions and three giraffes with yellow fondant. Attach lions and giraffes to cake between elephants.

    Use brush and deep pink, orange and brown Color Dust edible accents /lemon extract mixtures to paint elephant, lion and giraffe features. Add white Color Dust edible accents to remaining brown Color Dust/lemon extract mixture to lighten. Paint monkey noses with light brown Color Dust edible accents/lemon extract mixture. Use edible color markers to draw eyes.
