  1. Make & bake the cookies. Preheat the oven to 350°F. In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar with an electric stand mixer on high speed, or use a hand mixer, until the mixture is light and fluffy. Then, add the egg and almond and vanilla extracts.

In another bowl, combine the flour, baking powder and salt together. Next, gradually add the combined dry ingredients to the butter mixture, 1 cup at a time, mixing well after each addition.

On a floured surface, divide the dough into 2 balls. Using the rolling pin, roll out one portion at a time into a circle, approximately 12 in. diameter x 1/8 in. thick.

Use the egg-shaped cookie cutter to cut out the dough, dipping it in flour before each cut.

Bake the cut-out cookies on an ungreased cookie sheet for 8-11 minutes, or until the cookies are lightly browned. Remove the cookies from the oven and place them on a cooling rack that’s on top of a sheet of parchment paper to cool completely to room temperature.

  2. Melt the candy. Melt Candy Melts candy in a bowl by microwaving at 50% power or on a defrost setting for 1 minute. Remove and stir thoroughly, then continue to microwave at the same setting in 15 to 30-second intervals, stirring in-between until the candy is smooth and there are no solid pieces left.
  3. Tint the melted candy different light colors. Divide the melted candy into bowls so that there’s 2 oz. in 5 different mixing bowls. Then reserve the remaining white colored candy in a decorating bag and set it aside. Next, use candy colors to tint melted candy in the 5 bowls the following colors:

    • Tint one bowl light pink
    • Tint one bowl light orange
    • Combine blue and green candy colors to tint one bowl light teal
    • Tint one bowl light violet
    • Tint one bowl light green

Remove 1 oz. from each bowl and place it in its own decorating bag.

  4. Tint the melted candy darker colors. Use candy colors to darken the already tinted candy the following darker colors:

    • Tint one bowl dark pink
    • Tint one bowl dark orange
    • Combine blue and green candy colors to tint one bowl dark teal
    • Tint one bowl dark violet
    • Tint one bowl dark green

Remove from each bowl and place it in its own decorating bag.

  5. Decorate the cookies. Decorate one cookie at a time. First, cover the entire cookie with melted white candy.

Next, grab a pair of decorating bags with the same light and dark colors in them and drizzle them horizontally across the cookie.

Then, use a three-prong tool or meat fork to drag the candy from the top to the bottom of the cookie. Repeat the process, alternating colors, until all the cookies are decorated.

Once decorated, chill cookies in the refrigerator for 15 to 20 minutes to help candy set completely.
