Caramel Apple Fall Cupcakes

Candy apples are a fall staple, but here’s an even more decadent dessert; caramel apple cupcakes. These truly unique treats bring a familiar fall flavor home in a clever, easy to handle package. Crafted to look like the famous fall treats, these cupcakes are full of spice, peanuts and caramel flavors, before a Wilton tree branch treat stick that looks like a real branch is inserted. Make them to celebrate the fall season with family and friends.

  1. Make Cupcakes. Line muffin pan with cupcake liners. Prepare the spice cake batter following the recipe directions. Bake cupcakes until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let cupcakes cool completely on a cooling grid.
  2. Prepare buttercream frosting.Follow the buttercream frosting recipe according to instructions.
  3. Tint the frosting and prepare the decorating bag. Tint buttercream frosting by combining the Red-Red and the Christmas Red icing colors to create the hue of red shown. Place frosting in a decorating bag affixed with tip 12.
  4. Frost the cupcakes. Pipe the frosting onto the tops of the cupcakes. Use a spatula to smooth it before adding nuts and caramel topping.
  5. Decorate the cupcakes.First press the chopped peanuts onto the cupcakes, covering about one third of the top edges. Heat caramel sauce until it’s warm. Place it in a disposable decorating bag. Cut a ½ in. off end off bag and pipe the caramel onto the tops of the cupcakes. Finally, insert treat sticks.
