Boho Rainbow Fringe Cake

  1. Bake cake. Prepare cake batter following recipe instructions. Bake and cool two cake layers. Level, fill and stack for 6 in. high cake.

    Using white buttercream, ice cake smooth.

  2. Tint icing. Tint 1/2 cup icing each dark pink, medium pink, medium peach and beige using color combinations provided. Combine Red-Red and Black icing colors to get dark pink color shown. Combine Creamy Peach and Black icing colors to get medium pink color shown. Combine Creamy Peach and Ivory icing colors to get medium peach color shown. Combine Ivory and Juniper Green icing colors to get beige color shown. Reserve remaining icing white.

    Prepare 5 decorating bags with couplers. Fill separately with dark pink, medium pink, medium peach, beige and white icing. Attach tip 3 to colored icing bags and tip 2 to white icing bag.

  3. Mark cake. Using a ruler and toothpick, mark line around bottom of cake, 1 in. from base; this will be for the fringe.
  4. Pipe rainbows. Starting with dark pink, pipe bottom row of rainbows. Rainbows should be about 2 in. high from top of 1 in. line. Repeat around cake. Continue filling in rainbows with medium pink, medium peach and beige icing.

    Repeat for a second row of rainbows, using dark pink to pipe an arch from the middle of one rainbow, up 2 in. high, then back down to the middle of the next rainbow. Continue filling in rainbows with remaining colors.

  5. Pipe fringe. Using white icing with tip 2, pipe fringe around bottom 1 in. of cake.
  6. Pipe top of cake. Attach tip 8 to all 5 decorating bags. Starting with white icing, pipe row of beads around top edge of cake. Continue piping rows of beads, working towards center (white, dark pink, white, medium pink, white, medium peach, white, beige, white).
