Your little one will love diving into this First Birthday Smash Cake. With a bold teal icing and a cute candy topper, this smash cake is sure to be a hit at the party! Don't forget your camera, though—with a hungry 1-year-old, this cake won't last long!

  1. NEEDED: See the Supply List for items you can purchase here. You will also need:
    • Your favorite cake recipe or mix (3 cups batter needed)
    • Paper
    • Pencil
    • Tape
    • Plastic ruler
  2. Icing color to be tinted. Use Color Right base colors and QuickCount color formula to tint icing in the following shade:
    • Bright and Bold Teal: 2 cups white icing + 8B + 2Y
  3. Bake cake. Use your favorite cake recipe or mix to make 3 cups of batter, then bake and cool cake according to pan directions.
  4. Make "1" cake topper. Create pattern for topper by printing or tracing a 3 inch high "1" on paper. Place under parchment paper and tape to cake circle.

    Melt bright white Candy Melts candy in disposable bag according to package directions. Cut off small tip. Outline and fill in "1" with melted candy. Immediately cover with White Nonpareils. Chill until set, about 10 to 15 minutes.

    Carefully remove candy "1" from parchment paper; trim edges as needed with knife. Attach Lollipop Stick to back of topper with melted candy, leaving 1 1/2 inches for cake insertion. Chill until set, about 5 to 10 minutes.

  5. Decorate cake. Torte and fill cake. Place on turntable. Spatula ice cake with teal icing. Sprinkle nonpareils and blue jimmies around top and bottom of cake. Insert "1" cake topper.
